As the school year kicks off, our teachers are setting the stage for a fantastic year ahead! Students are getting to know each other through fun icebreakers, team games, and partner activities while learning classroom rules and routines. This helps everyone feel comfortable with their teachers, the studio, and the equipment they’ll be using.
For the first couple of months, classes focus on foundational skills to ensure that each dancer is prepared before moving on to choreography. Repetition is key! Even experienced dancers benefit from reviewing and refining their technique, as it can take years to fully master the skills with their bodies.
Foundational skills vary by age and style but often include rhythm, body positions, energy use, and transitions. If your dancer is in a class they’ve taken before, encourage them to perfect their technique and set an example for newer students. And remind them – recital routines are just around the corner!
Performance classes for dancers ages 5 and up will learn the POD parade routine starting in October. All POD students are invited and encouraged to participate in the Green Bay Holiday Parade on Saturday November 23 – more information about that will be coming soon! Most performance classes will begin learning their recital routine in November and continue working on skill building throughout the year. We hope you can come to our dedicated “Parent Observation” weeks during the year so that you can see your child’s progress first hand!
