Empowering youth through dance

On Friday July 19th, three students from the Power of Dance studio participated in Athletes in Action, a leadership training program designed specifically for middle school students. Lexie Lorang, Elise Van Himbergen, and Addison VandenPlas are all members of the Power of Dance All-Star competitive team program.

The Power of Dance studio and all of its coaches, staff, and team dancers, are members of the USASF, United States All-Star Federation. This not-for-profit organization establishes athlete safety guidelines, provides training to studios and coaches, and offers leadership training and opportunities to dancers in middle and high school.

The interactive workshop took place over Zoom so students got to meet and share with others from across the country. Multiple sessions are offered throughout the year, with this one focusing on leadership styles, and developing an action plan for how to be a better teammate in the upcoming season.

All three athletes found the workshop extremely valuable and plan to share what they learned with their teammates. Van Himbergen said, “I learned that there can be different kinds of leaders. Leadership doesn’t have to be black and white, there are shades of gray and room to be yourself.”

The Power of Dance studio prides itself on not just teaching students to become great dancers, but teaching their dancers to be great people. The Power of Dance is heading into its 18th year as a leader in dance education in the Green Bay area.

Registration is open for the 2024-25 season, and fall classes begin on Tuesday, September 3rd. The Power of Dance studio is located at 2490 Lineville Rd Ste H in the Village of Suamico.
