At Power of Dance, we know winter can be a challenging time for families. Illnesses circulate, weather is unpredictable, and school and family commitments can pile up quickly. We understand that sometimes missing class is unavoidable—and that’s okay.
At the same time, consistent attendance plays a big role in your dancer’s growth, confidence, and overall experience. Our goal is to work together to minimize absences as much as possible, so every dancer can feel successful and prepared as we head toward our May recital.
Every Class Counts
Dance is a cumulative art form. Each week builds on the last, whether dancers are learning new steps, refining technique, or adding choreography for recital. When dancers attend regularly, they are able to:
- Progress steadily and safely throughout the season
- Retain skills more easily instead of having to re-learn material
- Feel confident walking into class, knowing what’s expected
With only one class per week, even a single absence can feel significant—especially when absences happen back-to-back.
Confidence Grows with Consistency
One of the biggest benefits of regular attendance is confidence. Dancers who attend consistently are more likely to:
- Feel comfortable and included in class
- Enjoy learning choreography alongside their peers
- Stay motivated and excited about dance
When dancers miss frequently, they may feel unsure of what they missed or hesitant to jump back in, which can take away from the joy of the experience.
Supporting the Whole Class
Regular attendance doesn’t just benefit individual dancers—it supports the entire class. When most dancers are present:
- Teachers can move forward as planned rather than repeating material
- Class time is focused on dancing and growing, not catching up
- Dancers build stronger connections with their classmates and instructors
This consistency creates a positive, productive learning environment for everyone.
Preparing for the Spring Recital
Our annual recital in May is an exciting celebration of our dancers’ hard work. Winter and early spring classes are a key part of the preparation process. During this time, dancers:
- Learn choreography in manageable sections
- Practice spacing, formations, and musical timing
- Build confidence week by week, reducing stress as recital approaches
Regular attendance now helps ensure that the recital season feels exciting, not overwhelming, for both dancers and families.
A Shared Goal
We truly appreciate the commitment families make to dance, and we value the partnership we have with our parents. While some absences are unavoidable, prioritizing attendance when possible helps set dancers up for success, enjoyment, and pride in their accomplishments.
Thank you for supporting your dancer and our studio community. Every class attended is another step forward—and those steps add up to confident dancers and a joyful recital experience.
