Performance Team/All Star Team Open Auditions-

The POD offers competitive dance teams for dancers ages 4 and up.  The Competition Program is for dancers who not only love to dance but have the desire and discipline to both work as a team and better themselves as an athlete.  The extra attention to detail as we prepare for competitions advances the skill of the dancers much faster than taking classes alone.  Auditions are required for All Stars as team dancers have greater expectations to follow.

All-Star Teams begin their seasons in the summer.  Dancers are required to take both team practice and technique classes in the summer.  They also attend a choreography camp in August.  All-Stars practice 2 times a week in the Fall/Spring and take Ballet during the school year.  All-Stars begin their competition season in Late November/December.

Performance Teams begin their season in the Fall with no required summer classes (although it is encouraged to stay in dance shape and take a class or two in the summer).  Performance Teams will have team practice once a week in the Fall/Spring and must take Ballet.   While auditions are not required, they are recommended so that proper team placement can occur.  Performance Team competition season will begin Late Winter/Early Spring.  Please contact the studio asap if interested.

TEAM SELECTION: Teams are formed by the studio directors based on the following criteria: age, grade, technique, attitude & performance during the previous season, ability to pick up material, and maturity.  A minimum of 4 members is needed to compete as a “team” according to USASF requirements.  There may be more than one team at each age level.

All-Star age breakdowns (dancers age is determined by how old he/she is on August 31, 2019)

Tiny – (ages 4 – 6)

Mini – 9 and under

Youth – 12 and under

Junior – 15 and under

Senior – 18 and under

Dancers may be moved up an age division based on readiness but may NOT move down.  If a dancer is not ready for All Stars at their current age division, the POD staff will discuss options with the parents including “Performance Team”

AUDITIONS- Dancers are required to attend ONE Audition Session which will be assigned by the POD Coaches.  Please indicate conflicts on your audition form.  There is an audition fee of $35 that includes a POD Tank top- sizes will be take at auditions.  Forms and fees are due by Mon, May 20th.  A list of each dancer’s assigned session will be posted on our website’s general All Star Information page by Wednesday, May 22nd.

New this year: Convention style auditions.  Dancers will learn 3 short routine combinations consisting of pom, hip hop, and jazz choreography.  Coaches  and other staff will observe the dancers’ attitude, technique, maturity, ability to take feedback, and ease in picking up choreography.  Following the choreography classes will be a short skills combination class.  Dancers may be asked to demonstrate additional skills and/or flexibility- including kicks.

Showcasing:  During auditions, dancers will be asked to perform the routines in small groups for the coaches.  These groups will be video-recorded for review at a later time by the coaches.  Dancers should concentrate on memory, placement, strength of motions, technique, accuracy, and showmanship.

Tiny Dancers: 8:30-9:30am (will include one routine and a demonstration of rhythm and timing)

Mini Dancers: 9:00-11:00am (mini dancers wanting to audition for kick should return at 11:45am)

Youth Dancers: 9:00-12:00pm

Junior Dancers: 1:00-4:30pm

Senior Dancers 1:00-4:30pm

**Dancers should attend the time slot designated for their age unless they competed up an age group in a previous year.

What to wear: Dancers should come dressed in ALL BLACK for auditions.  Hair should be pulled up in a pony or bun.  Girls- fitted dance shorts, tights, fitted tank, leotard, or sports bra.  Make-up is not required but a little is encouraged.  Boys- compression style shirt & shorts that stop at the knee.  All dancers should have jazz shoes for pom/jazz and clean tennis shoes for hip hop.

What if I can’t make the Evaluation Days?  It is very important that you attend at least one of the evaluation sessions.  If you are absolutely unable to attend, please contact coach Elizabeth @ 920-639-7716 or coach Theresa @ 920-639-9490 immediately.  Any dancer auditioning at other than the above times may be charged a separate private audition fee and may be restricted for team placement.
